Word “troglodyte” has few meanings, but I can bet the vast majority of humans know only one of them. And this word means just very uncivilized, uneducated and in general savage people, who have no personal culture, don’t know how to act in several situations, are behind the times. Well, honestly in a way, this second full-length of Palermo’s residents is just like that. But at the same time, in this case, the term absolutely loses its pejorative meaning. Of course that’s the question of approach to the matter. But since metalheads generally aren’t like so called normal, then I’m sure my words have encouraged you to continue reading my scribble.
About the band itself I don’t know too much. I mean, I can’t tell you when it was born. But I strongly suppose Bacerus as one more representative of the young generation of ensembles. Why do I do that? Reason is as easy as pie: they released their first stuff ever (and it was directly their debut album “Homo Hominis Brutus” – I don’t count two singles) April 29th, 2021. Anyway, musicians, maybe except drummer Paul, aren’t as inexperienced as you might think. That’s even contrary, what you can very easily recognize while listening to “Troglodyte”. This is both about advanced technique and every song’s structure. Guys with huge dexterity create very brutal music using unrefined means. Tempo isn’t always, actually it’s quite often like that, fast. As I wrote before, residents of Sicily’s capital city present to us a very technical face of Death Metal. I know some of you will say now: “Hey you fucking cunt! You say they play very technically and at the same time they use unrefined means? What the hell?”. But I’ll tell you what. It only seems to exclude each other. I’m somehow quite sure you’ll agree with me after listening to “Troglodyte” as well. Guys absolutely don’t fuck around, and technique serve to brutality. It happens really a lot in this creativity, songs are very intensive and to be honest I hardly notice (actually when I saw it, it was for me some kind of cognitive dissonance and even shock) tracks are, with two exceptions which take a little less than four minutes, so short ones. To make you aware of this, I’ll only say that the intro and twelve tracks are a little, eighteen seconds, over half an hour. By the way, Mario uses his growling, which in my opinion makes this music even more brutal and insane, the same way Paul uses drums and Giorgio uses guitar and bass. I mean, Becerus is one of these few bands, personally last time I met something like that long ago, who haven’t lyrical layer at all. Vocalizations are just another instrument serving a superior purpose. And we all know what it’s about, doesn’t it? That’s why I don’t give a shit about writing it again!
Instead, I’ll slowly go to the finish of this review. I’m reluctant to do it, because it’ll make me lose my excuse to listen to “Troglodyte”. I don’t think I need to write any sentences like “I recommend this album…” or “All fans of Brutal Art should…”. If you were reading my words carefully, then you know very well what my approach is to this release, just like “Homo…”, December 20th last year by Everlasting Spew Records full-length and what you should do, as fast as possible, in my opinion! Oh… I almost forgot to inform you, even if you could check it out and get to know by yourselves (if you’re not totally lazy asses) stuff is available in every possible format you can wish. Of course, what actually I don’t think I need to write about, what’s clear and obvious, digital albums are the cheapest version, but I’m sure there’s really a lot of such orthodoxies like me who care only about physical copies!
