The Kovenant originally formed as a symphonic black metal act under the name of Covenant in Norway in 1993. Following a dispute with a Swedish electronic band of the same name, in 1999 the band subsequently changed their name to The Kovenant. The change also saw a musical shift into an industrial metal influenced sound.
