Finnish metal band I.F.A released the first single “Kalervo” from their forthcoming second studio album “Tiimalasi” which is set to be released on August 8th 2025 via Inverse Records. Music video is also done of the track and it can be seen below.
The band comments:
“The song summarizes the life of Kalervo Palsa. The other side of the shy and contemplative nature was a bohemian, an artist addicted to alcoholism and perversions. The paintings were very radical, for example his works had to be hidden from the Academy of Fine Arts when the president arrived. Death is a central theme in many works, and some of the works were even labeled as pornography at the time.
Palsa announced that he wanted to be the darkest painter in Europe. In his opinion, “it’s not enough to paint flowers, you also have to paint gallows”. The purpose was to experiment with not-so-usual melodic progressions and scales, so a strangely different one was born from that, which is also emphasized by the idea of the song’s lyrics.”
