On February 28th, 2023, at 23:22, the deadliest railway accident in the history of Greece occurred near the village of Evangelismos, Tempi, in Larissa. A violent head-on collision between the passenger train Intercity 62, operating the Athens-Thessaloniki route, and a freight train led to the tragic death of 57 people and the injury of at least 85 others.
This tragedy highlighted serious deficiencies in infrastructure, safety, and the implementation of appropriate protection systems, which railway workers had repeatedly warned about. The incident sparked intense reactions, protests, and deep sorrow throughout the country.
This heartbreaking event served as the inspiration for our song, “Mama… Don’t Cry In Silence,” which, for symbolic reasons, will be released on February 28th, 2025, at 23:22, exactly two years after the fateful collision.
“Mama… Don’t Cry In Silence” is a sincere, emotionally charged piece that combines personal loss with social outrage over the failures that led to this horrific tragedy. Through our music, we have sought to give vent to the grief of the victims’ families, honor the memory of the 57 people who lost their lives so unfairly, and highlight the need for action and change to prevent such events from happening again.
This song is our cry for justice and a call for those responsible to make meaningful political decisions that will protect citizens, as every state should.
