Cluj-Napoca, Romania based doom death metal quintet Umbersun present their debut full-length album, “Endless Winter Nights”, a self-produced and self-released material mixed by Alexander Backlund and mastered by Tony Lindgren at the famous Fascination Street Studios. Consisting of seven compositions spanning over an hour, “Endless Winter Nights” invites listeners to a profound journey through the labyrinthine depths of depression and anxiety, metaphorically encapsulated within the chilling embrace of winter. At the heart of the album lies its titular track, a profound expression of the emotional terrain traversed by Umbersun’s music. The album also features a notable vocal collaboration on two songs with Andrada Hofmeister (Symphress, Maesün), adding depth to its emotive resonance.
Back in 2018, Flaviu Rosca (keyboards, ex-Descend into Despair) and Doru Cailean (guitars, ex-Whispering Woods) started a studio project stemming from a shared vision deeply rooted in the essence of doom metal. As their collaboration flourished, the groundwork for a demo album took shape, marking the genesis of what would later evolve into Umbersun.
The ensemble expanded with the addition of István Vladareanu (Genune, ex-Whispering Woods, ex-Illusion of Control) on vocals and bass guitar, Mihai A. Martin on guitars, and Sergiu Petrica on drums, all of them infusing diverse influences and experiences into the collective tapestry of sound. This fusion of individual artistry laid the foundation for Umbersun’s distinctive identity, characterized by a seamless amalgamation of melancholic doom, death, black, and symphonic metal elements.
