Finnish metal act Ice Exiled has released the single “Civilization Zero” from their upcoming album. The album is set to be released in the fall of 2024 through Inverse Records.

Formerly operating under the name Archares, the band changed its name in early spring 2024. The name Ice Exiled reflects the band’s music: freshness, heaviness, and a Finnish sound. Along with the name change, the band’s lineup also underwent a transformation, now operating as a five-piece with a new drummer.

“Civilization Zero” represents the heavier side of our upcoming album. The initial spark for the song emerged in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the song conveys the anxiety and fury caused by the situation. The lyrics address human actions on Earth and paint a bleak picture of the future. Influences range from melodic death metal and metalcore, but also genres beyond metal category. Melancholic and catchy melodies blend with a lively rhythm and heaviness. The song sounds like Finnish metal with a modern twist.

The music video was shot in February 2024 and directed by vocalist Miika Matilainen. The band has largely handled the music production process themselves, seeking external assistance when needed. Drums were recorded by Rami Nykänen at Shed Studio, vocal production is handled by Aleksi Rautiainen, and the song was mastered by Miro Kiiski.
