Before I picked up this book, I have to admit that I have never been overly interested in the Beatles or John Lennon. Of course I knew the greatest hits, the activism of John and Yoko Ono etc., but I had no deeper interest. After reading this book by Jonathan Cott, I became more interested in the life and work of John Lennon as well as the Beatles.
When Jonathan Cott went to interview John Lennon and Yoko Ono in their London apartment in 1968 as the London correspondent for the Rolling Stone magazine, their friendship was born. The friendship remained so until John’s passing in 1980. Since then, Jonathan Cott has maintained contact with Yoko, and he is one of the select few authors who recognizes the enormously good impact she had on Lennon.
“Days that I’ll remember: spending time with John Lennon and Yoko Ono” offers new insight into Lennon and Ono as people, artists, and lovers and is one of the most insightful and devoted descriptions of this world-altering couple ever written.
Cott includes his own narrative in this detailed depiction of their connection in addition to the many interviews he conducted with them. Although the majority of them first appeared in Rolling Stone magazine, they typically did so in a condensed manner; the complete versions included here include previously unpublished and frequently enlightening content.
On December 5, 1980, Jonathan Cott conducted an interview with the couple at their New York City apartment regarding their album “Double Fantasy”. It was to be Lennon’s final significant interview.
